The Temple Within: Awakening Your Inner Holy of Holies
Holy of Holies, Edfu Temple
In the depths of your being lies a sacred chamber more magnificent than any earthly temple—your own Holy of Holies. This is not simply a metaphor, but a living reality within your light body, waiting to be discovered and activated. The Goddess Isis calls us inward, beyond the veils of ordinary perception, to remember the divine architecture of our souls.
Every temple you've ever been drawn to, every sacred space that has spoken to your heart, has been calling you home to this inner sanctuary. Today, we will set off on a journey to not only enter this sacred center but to create an altar there—a place where your highest self can commune easily and naturally with the Divine and where the fragments of your soul's story can be witnessed, honored, and integrated.
In ancient Egyptian temples, you will find something known as the inner shrine or Holy of Holies. This sacred room, located in the innermost part of the temple, housed the statues of the gods for whom the temple was created, and was accessible only to select priests and priestesses who attended to the statues. Only the high priests were allowed in this area of the temple, and it is here that they would perform rituals and place offerings in the name of the deity. The priests reportedly anointed the statues with oils and perfumes, applied cosmetics around their eyes, left food offerings, and more. In essence, the statue was treated as if it were the living God itself. The priests would communicate with the deity on behalf of the Pharaoh and his people. This room represented the inner sanctum of the human being—the heart, the most sacred dwelling place where one retreats to pray and commune with the Divine.
As I prepare to lead 10 Priestesses on an Egyptian pilgrimage this fall, I have been working closely with the Egyptian deities - especially Isis and Thoth. Isis had some beautiful insights into how we must tend to our own inner temple and the Holy of Holies within. Here’s what she had to say:
Goddess Isis
“You will be visiting temples, tangible outer temples, but remember the outer is always only a reflection of the inner. This means the inner is what we must always be working on. For everything you create starts first as a thought, and then eventually is made manifest through projection, belief, desire, intention, and action. The outer experience of visiting temples—the seeing, the feeling, the being present in these sacred spaces—will strike a vibrational chord within you.
By "within," we mean your light body codes will be activated and brought back online. As these codes awaken, fragments of lifetimes will be remembered—not random memories, but the relevant particles that come together to tell your soul's story and reveal your essence.
Through this process, you will feel a deeper understanding of your truth, of your many lives, of your evolution, of your karma. You will feel witnessed as the most current iteration of yourself, being in full observance to the fuller tapestry of who you are.
Remember: your job is to witness and learn, not to judge or become lost in the stories again. Think of it like an archaeologist who has found missing pages of an ancient manuscript. Each fragment fills in your story and deepens your understanding of your own hero's or heroine's journey.
Now, let us return to the sacred work of the temple. Your inner temple is the luminous palace of the soul where we will do our deepest work. Within this inner temple exists an altar of profound sacredness: your Holy of Holies.
Every temple and place of worship throughout history was designed—whether consciously or unconsciously—as a physical representation of this inner temple that houses your soul. The Holy of Holies is many things at once: it is the cave of wisdom, the chalice that holds your essence, the vessel of your deepest truth, the sacred center from which all authentic power flows. More than containing truth—it is truth itself.
Here is the key to working with many sacred temples: What lies at the center of each temple reveals its purpose along with the treasures you will find there. But merely visiting these outer temples is not enough. You must enter with an intention to allow these sacred spaces to activate something within your vessel, to guide you toward your own inner chamber that houses your personal Holy of Holies.
When you finally locate this sacred center within yourself, when you truly tap into its frequency, how deep are you willing to go?
Your Holy of Holies will speak to you in the language your soul understands best. Sometimes this sacred space will feel like pure bliss—waves of rapture, downloads of cosmic information, sudden remembrances of who you truly are. Other times it will feel like a complete rebirth, or perhaps simply the profound peace of being held in divine quietude.
What remains constant is the presence of an altar—a sacred space where you can lay down everything you have been carrying that is not authentically you. Here you can release false layers, limiting beliefs, borrowed identities, and dreams that were never truly yours.
Standing before this altar, ask yourself the questions that matter most: What do I truly want? How do I truly feel? Then, with an open heart, ask your God for what lives in the depths of your being. And then—this is crucial—listen. Be present. Be open. Become a trusting vessel for whatever wisdom wishes to flow through you.
The journey to your Holy of Holies is deeply personal, and understanding its unique characteristics will help you recognize it when you arrive. Consider these essential questions as you begin to explore:
What will you lay at this altar? (What needs to be released?)
Where is your Holy of Holies within your own vessel? (heart space, womb, etc.) What does it look like? Feel like? What's its soul signature color? How is it housed? How is it adorned? How do you feel in its presence? (Trust your first impressions and sensations.)
What does its altar look like? (There are no wrong answers—only your truth)
From what you were shown that needs to be released, what do you wish to alchemize? (What is ready to be transformed?)
As you deepen into this sacred work, you must learn to tend to the many chambers of your soul. This means becoming comfortable with all aspects of yourself—resting peacefully in your heart center, honoring the creative power of your womb space, accepting the full spectrum of who you are.
You contain multitudes: many facets, many aspects, many sides, many faces. Here lies both a profound truth and an apparent contradiction that you must embrace. You are all of these aspects—each one authentically you—and simultaneously, you are none of them completely. No single face, no single aspect, can define the totality of your being.
This is why you must become deeply anchored and comfortable in your essential centers: your heart (the seat of love), your core (your authentic power), your womb (your creative life force). From this grounded place, you can accept it all, love it all, and honor every aspect of your magnificent complexity.
Remember how the ancient temples served their communities—they were so much more than places of worship. These sacred spaces were the beating heart of spiritual life: places of prayer and comfort, sanctuaries of wisdom, centers of sisterhood and community support. People came to lay down their fears, judgments, and worries. Sometimes these temples held space for quiet reverence, other times for ecstatic celebration and divine union.
This ancient understanding is your blueprint for your inner work. Go now into your inner cave. Seek and find your Holy of Holies within your own vessel. Discover or consciously create your sacred altar.
The path to your Holy of Holies is not a destination but a return—a coming home to what has always lived within you. As you carry this work into your daily life, remember that every moment offers an opportunity to connect with your inner altar, to lay down what no longer serves, and to receive the guidance your soul is always offering.”
Channeled by the Goddess Isis
Your inner temple is always open, your sacred altar always ready to receive your offerings and alchemize them into gold. The ancient ones knew this truth, and now you remember it too. Trust the process. Trust your inner knowing. Trust that you are exactly where you need to be on this sacred journey home to yourself.
The Goddess Isis walks with you always, especially in the moments when you remember that you, too, are divine.
In sacred sisterhood and infinite love,
The Goddess Isis
